Black History Month is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contribution of black British people to our society. Throughout October, schools, colleges and universities up and down the country have been putting on events that honour the accomplishments of black Britons throughout history.
Today the Education Secretary has encouraged all schools to mark this special month with students and has pointed to resources for schools and teachers to help them teach black history.
Our history curriculum means schools have the flexibility to teach black history from primary school age and there are some fantastic resources available to schools and teachers to help them with this.
The Runnymede Trust provides resources about the stories of the generations of migrants who came to and shaped the British Isles from the medieval times to present day.
The Historical Association also has a wide choice of resources including on black Tudors, multi-cultural Britain, key historical figures, Black local history, and many other topics.
